The south end of the Barry Point Fire in California is very active this afternoon. There is a very large column visible from a great distance. The column is caused by the fire, not any suppression action at this time. However, the Crowder Flats Road (73) has been extensively prepped for the last few days and most of the fire’s resources are in that area.
Should the conditions be right, crews may burn out an area in front of the fire to try and keep it from crossing that road. That burn will be kept as small as possible but may add to the column.
