A public meeting will be held at Lakeview High School Gym Wednesday 8/15/12 at 7:00.PM.
Smoke will continue to be a problem in the Lakeview valley and south into California as northwest winds continue over the next couple of days.
The fire continued to push farther to the south into California Tuesday. Significant resources were repositioned from the north and west sides of the fire to the south end of the fire. Dozer line was constructed around the Modoc National Forest’s Crowder Flat Guard Station and the Willow Creek Ranch. Aircraft dropped water on the guard station and Willow Creek Ranch and several historic cabins in the area from Beaver Dam to Crowder Flat.
On the west side of the fire and the north end of Yocum Valley, crews continued to mop up last night’s 150 acre spot fire and continued patrolling for hotspots
The fire is burning actively south of FS 4017 on the eastern perimeter. Crews continued to work to link a contingency line from FS 4020 to the Dog Lake Road on the eastern perimeter This will enable firefighters to secure that side with a combination of direct attack and controlled burnout (controlled burning of fuels between fire line which eliminates fuels in front of the fire) to stop the fire’s spread to the east onto private land. This fire activity will be visible from Lakeview and considerable smoke will be generated.
Residents of the Lakeview area saw smoke and fire west of town during the day as the fire continued to spread within the fire line in the northeast corner below the Dog Lake Road. Residents to the south of the fire can expect to see smoke late Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning as winds shift to the north.
Emergency Response Personnel Ask For Your Cooperation: Entry into closed areas near the fire not only endangers your safety but also the safety of the firefighters and Emergency Response Personnel.
Due to the potential for extreme fire behavior and the need to provide for firefighter and public safety, the Fremont – Winema National Forest has put into in place a FIRE AREA CLOSURE and the County Sheriffs of Lake County, OR and Modoc County, CA. have Evacuation Orders posted.
